Lucile E. Ross

Lucile E. Ross; 96 Tiffin, Iowa,; formerly of Akron, died Thursday, June 18, 1998; at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Services were held Monday, June 22, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron with Reverend Marion Sindt officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Matt Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, Lisa Mitchell, and Renee Stevener.

Mrs. Ross was born October 4, 1901, in Perkins, Iowa, the daughter of Origen B. and Ethel G. (McDeid) Akers. She graduated from Akron High School.

She married Donald Gordon Ross August 14,1924, in South Dakota. He died in 1968. She worked with her father as a clerk in various, railroad depots; in the Akron area and also as a teller at the Akron Savings Bank in Akron for many years. She had been a longtime record keeper for the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. She volunteered. for many years at the Akron Senior Citizens Center and received a Governor's award for volunteerism from Iowa Governor Terry Branstad in 1990; She enjoyed gardening crocheting and performing in a small orchestra composed of family and friends. She also assisted; with the Rainbow Girls of the Eastern Star for many years. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Akron, Eastern Star, and the Akron Senior Citizens Center;

Mrs. Ross is survived by one daughter and her husband, Mary Lou and Les Mitchell, Tiffin, Iowa; two grandsons, Matt and his wife Lisa Mitchell, Tiffin, and Chris Mitchell and his friend Renee, Kansas City, Missouri; one great-grandson, Michael Mathew; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; one brother, Sameul Forrest, Akers, two sisters, Olive Akers Raben and Carrie Akers Brady.
