Mrs. Mamie R. Lorensen departed this life last Thursday night, October 1,1970 at the Menard Convalescent Home in Petersburg, Illinois. She had been living there since January of this year. She was 72 years of age.
Mamie Rebecca Peters was born in Springfield, Illinois April 8, 1898. She was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Hatlander-Peters. At a marriage service in Le Mars, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Mr. William Lorensen June 26, 1918. She lived most of her life since then in the Akron Community. In 1935 she became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in any way that she could such as in the Lutheran Church Women and in the Immanuel Altar Guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Akron. In a friendly, interested way she sought to serve and to be helpful wherever she was in her home and outside of it. Many people were benefited by her deeds of kindness and love. She enjoyed very much the company and interest of others at alltimes, not least during her long illness.
Among those who survive her departure are: her husband, William Lorensen; her two daughters, Mrs. Opal Reimers of Petersburg, Illinois and Mrs. Wilma Colclasure of Springfield, Illinois; her eight grandchildren and her four great grandchildren; her two brothers, Daniel Peters of Petersburg, Illinois and Herman Peters of Creve Couer, Illinois; her three sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Sparks of Akron, Mrs. Bertha Giffrow of Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. Matilda Fulton of East Peoria, HI.; nieces, nephews and other relatives, beside her many friends.
Her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Janssen, her brother, John D. Peters and her grandson, Jerry Janssen all preceded her in death.
A funeral service in her memory was held last Saturday evening at the Satorius Funeral Home in Petersburg, Illinois. The Rev. John Kleuter, Pastor of St. Pauls United Church of Christ conducted it. The funeral service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Akron, was held Monday afternoon of this week, with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Stuart Harris was organist and accompanied Mrs. Hugh Swift as she sang "Going Home" and "I Need Thee Every Hour." Leslie Lorensen, William Young, Harvey Peters, Orville Lorensen, Arvin Finzen and Darrell Peters served as casket bearers. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
