Mrs. Elizabeth Lotz, nee Bartold, died at her home in Remsen at 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, of the infirmities connected with old age. Elizabeth Bartold Lotz was born in Hessen-Darmstadt Germany on the 21st day of April 1835, and was therefore 73 years and eight days old when death came to claim her. With her husband she came to the United States fifty-three years ago. They lived for a time in Pennsylvania, then In Illinois and for the last 30 years in Iowa, and of these 30 years they lived here in Plymouth county 25 years. It is a little over a year ago that her husband preceded her to the great hereafter. Their union of whom one only, John Lotz, remains to mourn her loss. Two grandchildren, Joe and Lizzie Lotz, reside in Remsen. Funeral Friday May 1st at 2 p.m. Services at St. Paul’s church. - Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, May 5, 1908, page 2.
