Engelbert Henning is no more. Death came to relieve him from his long suffering at 11:45 p.m. Monday, May 4th. Deceased was born in Vittebur Ost-Friesland on the 26th day of November, 1853. In 1881 he married Dina Wimbecker and came with her to this country, settling in Illinois, and five years later to Plymouth county Iowa. They resided on their farm in Meadow township until about a year and three months ago, when he became afflicted with heart trouble and moved to Remsen, to live his remaining days in a well earned peace and quiet. Their union had been blessed with eleven children of whom only four live to mourn, with their mother, their great loss. Henning was a good man, a good husband and father and a respectable citizen, a hard and saving worker and he leaves his family in comfortable circumstances. Mrs. Henning resides in Remsen with three children, one, Mrs. Otmann, residing with her husband on the parental farm in Meadow township. The funeral services were held from St. Paul’s church in Remsen on Friday at 2 p.m. with interment in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, May 12, 1908, page 2.
