Funeral Services Friday for Paul Letsche, 58
Funeral services for Paul Letsche, 58, prominent local farmer who died unexpectedly at his home southeast of town last Tuesday night, were held Friday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church in Amherst township, Cherokee county south of Marcus. The pastor, Rev. Henry Friedrich, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Remsen community cemetery.
Born on a farm here October 27, 1904, he was the son of the late Martin and Frieda Schmidt Letsche, esteemed and lifelong resident of this community. Paul Letsche spent his entire life here and in recent years shared a home 13 miles southeast of Remsen with his brother, Harold and family.
The Harold Letsche family were in Remsen, attending a school program at the town hall, and on their return home at about 10 o’clock found Paul died in his easy chair. He had not previously complained of ill health.
Paul had never married. He was one of the community’s outstanding men, a faithful member of the Lutheran church, a respected citizen and a man who held the highest regard by his hundreds of friends over the countryside. His sudden passing came as a shock not only to his brothers and sisters, but also to all which were fortunate enough to enjoy his acquaintance.
Survivors. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Henry Hansen of Remsen, Mrs. Ruben Rogness of Royal, Ia., and Mrs. Maynard Douglas of Waterloo, Iowa, and three brothers, Roland, LeRoy and Harold, all of Remsen.
Hundreds of friends joined the sorrowing relatives at the Moeller funeral home to pay respects, and attended the services. The choir included Mrs. Vernon Grauer, Mrs. Edward Ohlendorf, Mrs. Henry Friedrich and Mrs. Albert Grauer, with Mrs. Charles Krekow at the organ.
