Rites Wednesday for Mrs. Frieda Letsche. Beloved Longtime Remsen Woman Dies Monday at 77.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frieda Letsche, 77, well known and highly esteemed Remsen woman who lived here most of her life and who died in her home Monday, were held at Christ Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Letsche had been in failing health several years and her terminal illness began late last November.
Born in Germany. Mrs. Letsche was born on September 4, 1883 in Wurtemberg, Germany, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt who brought their family to this country when she was a girl and settled in Remsen. She was united in marriage in Remsen to Martin Letsche on May 11, 1902. The couple farmed for many years south of town, Mr. Letsche died June 1, 1930 and the widow retired to Remsen in 1941.
Mrs. Letsche was a staunch member of Christ Lutheran congregation and a member of the ladies aid, but in recent years because of illness she was unable to participate in her customary church and aid work and attendance, still she clung steadfastly to her faith and was a beloved member. She was a woman of highly admirable traits who endeared herself to her hundreds of friends over this area, as attested by the many who called at the Moeller funeral home to pay their respects and show their love, and who attended the church rites yesterday afternoon. The church was filled to overflowing.
Survivors. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Emma) Hansen, Remsen; Mrs. Ruben (Ruth) Rogness, Royal, Ia. and Mrs. Maynard (Faye) Douglas, Waterloo, and four sons, Roland, Paul, LeRoy and Harold, all of Remsen and one brother, Paul Schmidt, also of Remsen.
Preceding her in death, besides her husband were a son, Paul and a sister, Molly (and 2 brothers per family notation).
Church Services. Moeller funeral home had charge of arrangements and funeral direction.
The Christ Lutheran pastor, Rev. Alfred Christiansen, conducted the services. Member of the ladies aid sang a hymn in unison, and three sacred selections were sung by a trio of ladies including Mrs. Christiansen, Mrs. Roy Steffen and Mrs. George Bottjen, Jr., with Mrs. Herman Kluver as organist.
Pallbearers were Martin Dorr, Alvin Groepper, William Gettner, Lyle Schorg, Albert Seel and Emory Hansen. – family news clipping
