Jake Gamerdinger Remsen Resident Died Tuesday. Had Been Active in Town’s Affairs Forty Years.
J. F. Gamerdinger, well-known Remsen resident for the past forty years, died Tuesday in Sacred Heart hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Thursday at St. Paul’s church in Remsen, Rev. Paul Wuebben officiating.
Mr. Gamerdinger was active in the business and civic affairs of Remsen until two years ago when his retirement was forced by failing health. After retiring from the farm he was manager of the Farmers Cooperative company for several years. He then purchased an elevator which he operated for several years and lost both elevator and his spacious home in the July 4, 1936 fire.
From 1930 to 1934 he was mayor of Remsen and that town’s fine municipal lighting plant was completed and much of the credit for securing that improvement for his town was due Mr. Gamerdinger.
Born August 27, 1870, in the province of Wurtenberg, Germany, Mr. Gamerdinger came to this county at the age of 19 and settled at Marcus. After five years in Marcus he entered the army of his adopted country during the Spanish American war and after his discharge took up his residence in Remsen vicinity, farming the first twelve years and then moving to town.
Mr. Gamerdinger was a likeable man and a good citizen who will be missed in the community in which he spent more than half his life.
Mr. Gamerdinger is survived by his widow, two sons, Jacob of Grimes and Dr. George of Stuart, and two grandchildren. The only other relatives in this country is George Single a nephew at Merrill. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Sept. 17, 1943, page 1.

Note: Jacob’s wife, Anna (Leithoff) Gamerdinger, died at Long Beach, California in 1958.
Anna Gamerdinger. Mrs. Anna Gamerdinger, former longtime Remsen resident, passed away in Long Beach, California, it was learned here on Saturday. She had been a resident of Long Beach for twelve years. – Le Mars Globe-Post, March 3, 1958, page 1.
