JOHN B. SCHOEP

John B. Schoep, 71, longtime LeMars resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday (Oct. 2, 1985) while on a fishing trip to Lake Madison in South Dakota.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in LeMars. Rev. Alvern Kinrade will officiate and burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday with the family present at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m.

He was born Dec. 4, 1913, at Orange City to John L. and Rhoda Brinks Schoep. He farmed in Sioux and Plymouth counties and later worked at Sioux Tools. He had lived in LeMars since 1956.

His marriage to Mary Ellen VanSteenwyk took place Dec. 4, 1933, at Elk Point. She preceded him in death. On Dec. 5, 1959, he married Lucia Dawson in LeMars. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Northwestern Academy of Orange City and a member of the Plymouth County Historical Museum.

Survivors are his wife, Lucia, LeMars; two daughters, Mrs. George (Erla Beth) Roder of Langdon, N.D., and Mrs. Donald (Marianne) Hansen, of Remsen; two sons, Arden of Nevada and Cary of Kingsley; a stepson, Arlan Schrank of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; a great grandson; a sister, Mrs. Calvin (Ann) Groen; and a brother, Vernon Schoep, both of Orange City. He was also preceded in death by a brother, daughter and stepson.
