Death removed three more prominent old Remsen residents during the past week with the passing of Mrs. Carl Recknagel, Mrs. Carl Schumacher and Mrs. John Juhl…
…The death of Mrs. John Juhl occurred at her home in Fredonia township last Sunday morning, July 23, Mrs. Juhl had been a sufferer with aenemia for about two years. She was 58 years old, and leaves her husband, three daughters and one son. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, with interment in the Remsen cemetery.
Mrs. Juhl’s first illness came upon her a little more than two years ago, and ever since then she has been receiving treatments and excellent care nevertheless her condition grew worse and for the past two months she was bedridden. The end came at 8 o’clock last Sunday morning.
Maren Christiansen Juhl was born in Denmark, May 31, 1864, and at the age of eleven years came to the United States with her parents. The family, after arriving in this country, settled on a farm in Union county, South Dakota, where they resided for a number of years.
On July 19, 1884 she was united in marriage to John Juhl, and the couple immediately came to Iowa, settling on the Fredonia township farm which is the present family home. To their union five children were born, four of whom are living. One son, Christian, died at age five years. Surviving are the husband, three daughters and one son, who are: Bessie, living at home; Mrs. Sam Lund, Mrs. Louis Larson,, and Andrew, all living in this community. The deceased is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. A K. Hayden and Mrs. A. M. Roman, of Alcester, S.D.; J. C. Bredall, of Akron, Iowa, and Peter Bredall, of Solvang, Cal.
Mrs. Juhl was a kind and loving mother and wife, and a staunch friend to her many acquaintances. She enjoyed the confidence and highest esteem of a very large circle of friends, all of whom sincerely regret her departure and extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. Services were conducted in the Danish Lutheran church in Fredonia township, by Rev. J. Soe, of Marcus, and interment was made in the Remsen cemetery. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, July 27, 1922, page 1, column 4.

Mrs. Juhl, wife of John Juhl, a prominent and well known farmer o fFredonia township, passed away at her home on Sunday following an illness of the duration of a year. Death was caused from pernicious anemia from which she had suffered for several months.
Mrs. Juhl was a native of Denmark where she was born fifty-eight years ago. Her maiden name was Marie Bredall and when she was eleven years of age her parents came to this country. Shortly after their arrival in this country they settled in Union county, South Dakota, where a number of their country folk had found homes in the land of promise.
She was united in marriage about thirty years ago with John Juhl and they made their home in Fredonia township, this county, where they have successfully farmed and became leading factors in the practical and social life of the community.
Mr. and Mrs. John Juhl were the parents of five children, one of whom died at the age of five years. She leaves to mourn her death he husband, John Juhl, one son, Andrew Juhl, and three daughters, Mrs. C. Lund, Mrs. Mary Larson and Miss Bessie Juhl, all residents of Fredonia township. She also leaves a brother, Jas. Bredall, of Akron, and a half sister, Dr. Christine Heiden, of Alcester, S.D.
The funeral was held from the home in Fredonia township on Tuesday afternoon and services were held at the Danish Lutheran church, Rev. J. Soe officiating, and were largely attended.
Mrs. Juhl was a loving wife and mother, active in all duties pertaining to the household and was a worker in the church and its societies and was held in the highest regard and esteem by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends from Le Mars who attended the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. Barney Kramer, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lake and family, P.H. Peterson and M.P. Bogh and families. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, July 28, 1922, page 1.
