DIES ON VISIT TO MOTHER. Mechanic Taken Ill on Fourth of July at Remsen, Iowa.
Sioux City Journal: Taken suddenly ill on July 4 while visiting his mother, Mrs. D.H. Moritz, at Remsen, D.H. Moritz, Jr., 41 years old, 818 Main Street, died Wednesday at Remsen. Rupture was the cause of death.
Mr. Moritz had been employed for the past 12 years in Sioux City as a mechanic. He was born in Norden, Germany, and came to this country in 1882, settling in Remsen. Twelve years ago he came to this city.
Survived by him are his wife, daughter, Lillian; six brothers, John, Geo., Chris, Heyo, Hein and Henry, all living at Kingsley, Iowa, except his brother Henry, who resides at Kennedy, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Laude of Kennedy, Minn., and Mrs. H.C. Baldes of Remsen, and his mother, Mrs. D.H. Moritz of Remsen.

DEATH OF D. H. MORITZ. Sioux City Man Takes Sick Suddenly In Remsen and Succumbs Yesterday.
David H. Moritz, of Sioux City, son of Mrs. Mentje Moritz, of Remsen, died at the home of his mother here yesterday afternoon at 12:30 o’clock, after a brief illness with an ulcer of the bowels. Mr. Moritz had been ailing for the past year, but was able to combat the disease successfully until last Tuesday, when his condition suddenly took a turn for the worse.
Mr. Moritz came to Remsen on July 4 with his family, to spend the day with his mother and his other relatives, and in the afternoon he came violently ill suddenly. Physicians were called at once, and an operation was performed Wednesday afternoon. First results were favorable for recovery, but the next day it became apparent that the end was near at hand.
Mr. Moritz died at 12:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, surround by his mother and those of his brothers and sisters who were able to reach his bedside.
David Moritz was born in Morden, Germany, on May 27, 1881, and came to this country with his parents the following year. The family settled in the state of Illinois, and came to Plymouth county 32 years ago. David lived with his parents until his marriage, to Miss Nellie Mills, of Sioux City, ten years ago, and then went to Sioux City where the couple have lived ever since. Mr. Moritz was engaged in the automobile business ever since his marriage.
He was a kind and loving father, husband and neighbor, and was highly respected among his many acquaintances in and around Remsen and Sioux City.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mentje Moritz, his widow and one daughter, who is nine years of age. Besides these there are six brothers and two sisters: Harm, John, George, Christ, and Heyo, of Remsen, and Henry, of Kennedy, Minn.; and Mrs. Henry C. Baldes of Remsen and Mrs. John Audi, of Kennedy, Minn.
The funeral will be held Saturday at the residence, with services at 2 p.m. from St. Paul’s church. Interment will be in the Remsen cemetery. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, July 13, 1922, page 1, column 5.
