MRS. HARNACK DIES. WAS WELL KNOWN RESIDENT OF REMSEN TOWNSHIP. HAD BEEN ILL FOR SOME TIME. Deceased Was Born in Clayton County, Where She Lived Until Her Marriage – Eight Your Children Orphaned by Her Death.
Mrs. Mathilda Harnack, a well known resident of Remsen township, died at a local hospital on Sunday, November 5th. Her death was due to pernicious diabetes. She had been in poor health for some time and recently underwent an operation.
The deceased was born in Clayton county, Iowa. Her maiden name was Mathilda Henker [Henkes], and she was born on February 10, 1868, and lived in Clayton county until her marriage with Hermann Harnack in 1894. Mr. Harnack died in June of last year. Mrs. Harnack is survived by eight children the oldest of whom is twenty-one years and youngest nine years of age. They are Herbert, Della, Clarence, Hazel, Ross, Mildred, Myrtle and Iona.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock at the home and service will be held at the Lutheran church in Remsen. Mrs. Harnack was well known in a large circle of friends and was esteemed and respected by all who knew her. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Nov. 7, 1916, page 1.
