Mr. Martin Nissen arrived in Remsen after an absence of six months in his Fatherland, Holstein. Martin has enjoyed his trip, but says he is happy to be back in Remsen. Le Mars Sentinel, May 6, 1890, page 3.

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS. REMSEN. (From the Bell). Martin Nissen and Christina Scherner were united in marriage by Squire Erichsen Friday, Dec. 5. Our best wishes we offer for the good of the happy couple. - Le Mars Sentinel, Dec. 12, 1890, page 4.

Martin Nissen is in trouble with his old enemy “Diabetia”. He was taken sick last Saturday and is bedridden. His many friends are anxious for good reports of his condition. – Le Mars Globe

Martin Nissen, of Remsen, a well known saloon keeper, died last Friday in Sioux City, after a long illness. The funeral was held Tuesday at Remsen. Mr. Nissen was a native of Schleswig-Holstein and was one of the pioneer settlers of Remsen. He was known as a saloon keeper who ran his place strictly according to the mulet Law. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Friday, Feb 5, 1909, Page 6.

Peter Duster, of Sioux City, Chris Havenbeck, of Akron, Ed Nissen, of Davenport, and Henry Scherner of Milwaukee, came to Remsen to attend the funeral of Martin Nissen. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Feb. 9, 1909, page 2.

Note: Martin is buried in the Remsen City Cemetery. There is one other near-by Nissen stone with the name "Dora" (no dates). Any help on Dora's stone would be appreciated.
