OLDEST REMSEN RESIDENT DIES. MRS ANNA KIESBY ATTAINED THE GREAT AGE OF NINETY-NINE YEARS.
Mrs. Anna Kiesby, mother of Mrs. Mary Hansen, and the oldest resident of Remsen and perhaps in the county, passed away at her daughter’s home Wednesday night at 8 o’clock after a brief illness. She was almost 99 years old.
Mrs. Kiesby was possessed of an uncommonly robust constitution and all her life enjoyed excellent health. Her sight and hearing were perfect even in her last days and she did not complain of any form of sickness until a few days ago when a general breakdown became apparent. She was confined to bed for but four days.
Anna Katherine Kiesby was born December 29, 1833, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and was married there in 1856. The family came to this country in 1882. Mrs. Kiesby made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Hansen, for the last sixteen years.
Surviving are the following sisters and brothers: Erich Kiesby, Larchwood, Iowa; Mrs. Hansen, Remsen; John Kiesby, Rhame, N.D.; Mrs. Maggie Zieler, Dona, Texas; Mrs. Dora Harvey, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Arnold Kiesby, Gettysburg, S.D. Two children died in Germany before the family came to America.
The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church and as a member of Christ Lutheran congregation here was affiliated with the Aid society since its organization. She was a lovable woman of strong Christian character and her vast number of friends throughout this territory regret to hear of her demise. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Nov. 15, 1932, page 1.Note: Anna Kiesby was buried in the Remsen City Cemetery.
