He was born in Cook county, Ill., and came to Remsen in 1889. Shortly after coming here he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Long, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Long, who still reside here. The couple went to farming south of town, and after five years at this occupation Mr. Koerner went into the saloon business in Remsen. Two years later they moved to Larchwood, later to Sioux Falls, and then to their present home, Lismore, where Mr. Koerner up to the time of his death operated a pool hall and barber shop in company with a son, Fred.

Mr. Koerner was esteemed by a large circle of friends in and around Remsen, who regret to learn of his early demise.
