Mrs. J. Henes. Services were held in Christ Lutheran church in Remsen, Friday for Mrs. Jacobine Henes, 83, well known Remsen woman who passed away in the Le Mars hospital Tuesday, October 20.
Mrs. Henes, who spent her last years in her home alone, had been in failing health for some time and, unable to care for herself adequately without assistance, hospital care was recommended by her physician two weeks ago.
Born Jacobine Reichert, she was born in Wurtenburg, Germany, July 30, 1870, and came to this country in 1897. The family lived on a farm south of Marcus.
January 23, 1900, she married George Henes. The couple farmed for a number of years and retired to Remsen in 1919. Mr. Henes died in 1939.
Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her childhood back in Germany, Mrs. Henes clung steadfastly to her faith and was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran congregation and to its Ladies Aid. She was a highly esteemed member of the community and her death, though expected, caused general regret among her many old friends.
Hrs. Henes left no immediate family relatives in this country. There is one brother in Germany. Other survivors included Mrs. John Meyer of Marcus, a niece, and Minnie Digel, Mrs. Henry Digel and Mrs. Emma Digel, sisters-in-law and all of Marcus, and Mrs. Margaretta Digel of Remsen, another sister-in-law.
The body was at the Fisch funeral home until service time at 1:30 o’clock Friday afternoon, followed by Christ Lutheran church services at 2 o’clock, conducted by the acting pastor, the Rev. R.W. Meyer of Marcus. – Le Mars Globe-Post, Oct. 26, 1953, page 18.
