Funeral services were held Monday, August 8, for George Henes, 71, pioneer of Remsen vicinity, who died August 7. John George Henes was born in Germany September 14, 1867, and came to America in 1883, settling on a farm in Cherokee county and on retiring came to Remsen. He is survived by his wife, one brother, Jacob Henes, Minot, N. D.; one sister, Miss Barbara Henes, Marcus; three half-brothers, Ernest Digel of Remsen and Oscar and Carl Digel, near Marcus, and a half sister Minnie Digel, Marcus. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Aug. 16, 1938, page 3.
