Mrs. Wiebke Boge, for twenty-eight years a resident of Remsen and vicinity and well known throughout the community, passed away very suddenly at her home last Saturday after noon, her death being due to a stroke of apoplexy. She was 80 years of age and is survived by five children. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with services conducted by Rev. Fred Wahlers, in Christ Lutheran church. Mrs. Wiebke Boge, nee Seeck, was born in Woerden, Germany, on May 18, 1840. She lived with her parents until she reached young womanhood, and in 1863, in her native home, she was united in marriage to Jacob Boge, also a resident of that place. The couple continued to reside there for five years, Mr. Boge following his occupation of painting. In 1868 they came to the United States, settling in Benton county, Iowa, where Mr. Boge also was engaged as a painter for several years, after which they bought an eighty acre farm near that town and made it their home. In 1892 they came to Remsen, purchasing a 240 acre farm seven miles southeast of Town, where the family resided for many years. Mr. Boge died in 1897, and his widow remained on the farm with the children for two years more. She came to town in 1899, turning the farm over to her son Jacob, who also retired later and came to make a home for his aged mother. Mrs. Boge was the mother of twelve children, five of whom are left to mourn her death. They are: Jacob, Remsen; Mrs. Emma Jurgensen, Luverne, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Groth, Sibley, Iowa, Mrs. Lena Theissen, Keystone, Iowa, and Herman, Remsen. She is also survived by one brother Chris (?) Seeck, and one sister, Mrs. Margaretha Off, both of Keystone, Iowa. There are nineteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. - Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Tuesday, Feb. 22, 1921, page 4.
