DEATH OF LITTLE LOUIS SCHMITZ. Three Year Old Boy Meets Accidental Death.
The grim hand of death reached out Friday, August 18th and took from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schmitz, residing one mile west of Remsen, the little son, Louis.
While in the yard on a load of sand the little fellow lost his balance and fell to the ground directly in front of the rear wheel which passed over his head, crushing the skull and causing instant death. All members of the family witnessing the horrible accident rushed to the assistance of the stricken child and did all that loving hands were capable of to resuscitate their darling babe, but to no avail.
Louis’ early death is mourned by his sorrowing parents, two brothers, Albert and Andrew and one sister, Elsie, by other relatives and a large number of friends. Little Louis was the youngest son and being the baby, the favorite of the family. He was a most affectionate and lovable child of a cheerful disposition and will be sadly missed from his home.
The funeral services were held Sunday at 2 o’clock at the German Lutheran church at Remsen, Rev. Guenther officiating. The pall bearers were four little boys, cousins of the deceased, Roland Letsche and Paul, Ervin and Carl Letsche. The remains were laid to rest in the Remsen cemetery. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in Remsen. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The flower girls were close friends of the family, Eda Neihus, Marie Kenney, Wilma Falke, Thelma Spieker, Alma Dorr, Paulina Steffen.
Louis William George Schmitz was born September 26th, 1913 and had attained the age of 2 years, 10 months and 22 days. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Aug. 29, 1916
