Evalyn E. Sievers, 94, of Le Mars passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Evalyn E. Petersen was born July 4, 1917, on the family farm near Remsen, the daughter of Niels and Elise (Kloster) Petersen.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Danish Lutheran Church near Oyens.

Evalyn attended country school in Plymouth County through the eighth grade. She attended Sioux City Beauty Academy and graduated in 1941.

Later on in her life, Evalyn completed her final four years of grade school and attained her diploma in 1954.

Evalyn was united in marriage to William Detloff Sievers on June 7, 1959, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Early on, she and Bill farmed near Seney, Iowa and later near Melvin, Iowa. Later, they moved to Woodbine, Iowa where they owned and operated a restaurant. Evalyn also worked as a beautician for many years.

In 1973, they settled in Le Mars.

Evalyn worked as a cook at the Le Mars Senior Center for a few years. Later, she drove bus for the Woodbury County Community Action Agency. In 1978, she became the first driver for Siouxland Regional Transit in Le Mars. In 1995, she retired. William died Feb. 8, 1985.

In 1989, she moved from her home to the Floyd Valley Apartments in Le Mars. She lived there until becoming a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Evalyn was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Early on, she was active in the church choir, circle, and bible study.

Evalyn had a joy for music and loved to play the organ in her home. She also enjoyed playing cards; especially pinochle. She will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include a son: James Sievers of Slidell, La.; a daughter: Aline (Jerry) Bruck of Harlan; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Helen Petersen; and her sister, Fern Petersen.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. The Rev. Greg Gabriel will officiate. Burial will follow in the Remsen City Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday), with the family present from 5-7 p.m., and prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.
