STRICKEN WHILE IN THE PULPIT. REV. J. SOE, PASTOR OF DANISH CHURCH IN FREDONIA TOWNSHIP IS DEAD.
Rev J. Soe, for twelve years pastor of the Danish churches of Marcus, Alta and Fredonia township, this county, passed away at his home in Marcus shortly after midnight Wednesday, June 17, after an illness of only three days.
Rev. Soe was taken ill while conducting services at Alta, the previous Sunday, and was taken to the home of a member of the congregation, where he was cared for and his wife and other relatives summoned.
On rallying he expressed a desire to be taken to his home and with the sanction of the attending physician was taken to his residence in Marcus. He suffered a relapse Tuesday afternoon, and his family were summoned to his bedside. His death was due to a nervous collapse and a severe case of pleurisy.
Few were aware of his illness and the news of his death came as a shock to many friends. He was a very popular minister in the parishes he served.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, five children, Mrs. Andrew Peterson, Viborg S.D.; Mrs. Peter N Peterson, Marcus; Mrs. Nick Kloster, Remsen; Samuel Soe, Racine, Wis; and Dagmar Soe, of Marcus.
The funeral services were held at the Nazareth Lutheran church in Marcus Sunday afternoon and interment made in the cemetery at Remsen. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, June 23, 1925, page 4.
