Mrs. Lizzie Koerner Pioneer Resident of Remsen Passess.
Mrs. Lizzie Koerner, resident of Remsen fifty years, died at her home Tuesday following an illness of a few days caused by a stroke.
Mrs. Koerner, nee Lizzie Pfaff, was born June 5, 1863, on a farm near Frankfort, Ill. In her home town she was united in marriage November 16, 1882, to Louis Koerner, and the couple farmed in that vicinity for seven years. Coming to Remsen in the fall of 1889 they were residents there since.
The surviving children are Charles Koerner, Elkton,S.D.; Harry Koerner, who lived with his mother; Lena, Mrs Frank Bishton, and Emma, Mrs. August Sanow, Remsen, and Clarence Koerner, Sanborn, Iowa. Another mourner is Mrs. John Edwards of Detroit, Mich., the former Grace Pfaff, a niece, who from the age of three years until she was 11 years old lived under Mrs. Koerner’s care. The surviving brother is William Pfaff of Danville, Ill.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran Evangelical church, Rev. Paul Wuebben officiating and burial made in the Remsen cemetery. Pall bearers were Edwin Holtgrewe, A.D. Ohlendorf, Edw. J. Lang, Walter Lang, C.H. Gobe and Leonard Fecknagel. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, June 2, 1939, page 1.
