Obituary. Morten P. Mortensen
Morten P. Mortensen, 79, lifelong Remsen area resident, died Sunday at Floyd Valley hospital after an illness of several months. He had been hospitalized one month.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church, Remsen, with Rev. Paul Wuebben officiating.
Burial will be in the Remsen city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home. A prayer service will be held tonight (Tuesday) at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul, Roger, Stan and Steven Nielsen, Randy Mortensen and Stanly Bastman.
Mr. Mortensen was born Jan. 16, 1892, in Fredonia township, a son of the late Peter and Maren Nielsen Mortensen.
He married Cathrine Juhl Feb. 21, 1917, at Marcus. They farmed in Fredonia township until 1948 when he retired and they moved to Remsen. He was employed by the Moeller furniture Co., Remsen, for many years after moving to town.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Lloyd, two brothers, Nis and Peter and a sister, Mrs. Mary Juhl.
Survivors are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Roy Nielsen of Cedar Falls; two sons, Melvin and Wayne, both of Pipestone, Minn., a borther, Niels of Le Mars; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Herlig) Lassen and Mrs. Carl (Boline) Marquard, both of Remsen, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, February 2, 1971, page 5.
