Mrs. Morten Mortensen, 86, Remsen, died Saturday (May 21, 1977) at a hospital in Le Mars.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church in Remsen. Rev. Julian Swanson officiated. Burial was in Remsen [city] cemetery.
A prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Moeller funeral home.
Mrs. Mortensen, the former Catherine Juhl, was born Oct. 18. 1890, in Plymouth county. She was married Feb. 21, 1917, at Marcus.
The Mortensens farmed in Fredonia township until 1948 when they retired and moved to Remsen. Mr. Mortensen died in 1971.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Roy Nielsen of Cedar Falls; a son, Melvin of Pipestone, Minn., 13 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morten in 1971, and two sons, Lloyd in infancy and Wayne who died in 1975. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, May 23, 1977, page 10.
