Obituary--Clarence W. Reeves

Clarence W. Reeves, 86, Sioux City, died Friday at the Orange City hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer funeral home in LeMars. Rev. Alec Almet and the Rev. Harold Keeney will officiate. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Reeves was born Dec. 10, 1883, in Elgin Township, Plymouth county. He married Katherine Engels March 9, 1910, at LeMars. He farmed in the LeMars area until retiring to Sioux City 12 years ago.

Survivors are his wife, a son Donald of Davenport, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of the Morningside Nazarene church.

(The following information was furnished by the family.)

Death claimed a former Elgin township and LeMars resident on July 10 at the Orange City hospital. C. W. Reeves has been in that hospital since May 1. Until that date he had enjoyed for more than 86 years a fair degree of good health.

Clarence Watson Reeves was born Dec. 10, 1883, in Seney. He was the sixth child, third son of Arthur and Elizabeth Mercer Reeves.

Clarence was carried to church and attended this Methodist church for many years. Here he was converted in his teen years, sang in choirs and in a male quartet and also taught Sunday school.

He attended the public school and college, so that he could and did teach rural schools in Elgin township.

On March 9, 1910, Clarence Reeves and Katherine Engels were united in marriage. One son, Donald, was born to them.

For many years they farmed on the land homesteaded before the turn of the century by Arthur Reeves. The Clarence Reeves' came to LeMars in the 1940's and some 12 years ago moved to Morningside, Sioux City.

C. W. Reeves was a very dedicated Christian man. He was much interested in all good projects of the church, especially those of a missionary nature.

Many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Reeves are on the foreign field of Christian endeavor. Money contributions from this good couple went regularly to the missionaries.

Mr. Reeves' wife survives him as do son Donald of Davenport, his wife and Donald's two grown children, Karen of Griffith, Ind., and David of Davenport. There is one great-granddaughter. One sister, Mrs. Jessie Chambers of Watertown S.D., survives also.

Two brothers and three sisters preceded Mr. Reeves in death. Many nephews and nieces of this community will miss this good man as will a host of friends and neighbors.

For several years Mr. Reeves has been a member of the Morningside Nazarene church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Mauer funeral home.
