Esther Criswell

Esther L. Criswell, 92, Plymouth County native and lifelong resident, died Saturday (Oct. 29, 1988) at her home in LeMars after a short illness.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Seney United Methodist Church with intern pastor Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 2 p.m. today (Monday) with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

The former Esther L. Cook was born March 26, 1896, in Plymouth County to William and Martha Reeves Cook. She married Bert Charles Criswell Dec. 1, 1915, at rural Seney. She was a member of Seney United Methodist Church, and the U.M.W. of the church.

Survivors are two sons, Ervin Criswell and Gordon Criswell, both of LeMars; two sisters, Mrs. Virla De Raad of Coffeeville (sic-Coffeyville), Kan., and Mrs. Jay (Ethel) Donlin of Merrill; a brother, John (Jack) Cook of LeMars; seven grandchildren, Dennis Criswell, Carla Scales, Martha Steffen, Tammy Cruz, Cindy Costello, Debra Wood, Cathy Criswell; four great-grandchildren, Kelly, Kristi, Aaron and Amanda, and a great-great-grandson, Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bert, in 1947.
