Obituaries--John "Jack" Cook
John A. "Jack" Cook, 89, a Plymouth County native and lifelong resident, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars.
John A. Cook was born Dec. 24, 1909, on a farm near Seney, the son of C. W. and Martha (Reeves) Cook. He grew up and attended rural school near Seney. On Jan. 3, 1934, he married Lorraine Utecht at Seney. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for many years near Seney in Elgin Township. In 1965, they moved from the farm into LeMars where Jack was employed by the City of LeMars until his retirement. Mrs. Cook died Oct. 12, 1990.
He had resided at Plymouth Manor Care Center since May of 1998.
Jack enjoyed knitting rugs and working with jigsaw puzzles in his spare time.
Survivors include one son, Dale Cook and his wife, Marilyn, of LeMars; four grandchildren, Gary Cook and his wife, Mollie of LeMars, Terry Cook and his wife, Julie, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lorrie Mortensen and her husband, Ron, of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Larry Cook of New Ulm, Minn.; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verla (sic--Virla) DeRaad of Coffeeville (sic--Coffeyville), Kan.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Esther Criswell and Ethel Donlin; and a great-grandson, Christopher Mortensen.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Gary P. Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural LeMars. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Monday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
