Mary Urie, Pioneer Pocatello Woman Dies at Age of 81

A resident of Pocatello for more than half a century, Mrs. Mary Urie, 81, died Saturday at her home, 805 North Arthur avenue, following a month's illness. She was born in Dubuque, Iowa, Dec. 21, 1861, the daughter of George W. and Mary Austin Burrill, was educated there and married Charles Illingsworth in 1881. They lived in Iowa until 1886 and moved to Iowa (error--Idaho) settling first in Shoshone. Mrs. Illingsworth came to Pocatello in 1888 and had since resided here, for 40 years in the same location on North Arthur. Charles Illingsworth died in Chihauhua, Mexico, in 1897.

Mrs. Illingsworth operated the first ladies' millinery store in Pocatello in 1888 on Cleveland avenue, where the Bangs stationery store is now located, later moving to the corner of Center and Cleveland, location of the present Paris company store.

She married John Franklin Urie in Pocatello in 1898 (error--1900). He died three years ago.

She is survived by one son, William C. Illingsworth, of Pocatello, and two granddaughters, Mrs. Charles Crowley of Idaho Falls and Mrs. Louis F. Racine, jr., of Mountain Home, also three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Brown of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Mrs. T. W. Hinde of Forestburg, South Dakota, and Mrs. John Alderson of Lemars (LeMars), Ia.

The body is at the Downard mortuary and funeral announcements will be made later.

Obituaries--Mary Urie

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Urie, 81, pioneer resident of Pocatello, were held Tuesday in the Downard chapel with the Rev. Earl G. Lier, vicar of Trinity Episcopal church officiating.

Mrs. G. A. Wagner accompanied Mrs. Reade Young who sang several numbers.

Honorary pallbearers were Frank Rieger, Tom Langan, Walter H. Cleare, Silvester Tout, Dave Neelan and Tom Glassford. Active bearers were Robert Hunter, Harry Pauschert, Hyrum Crane, Earl Chandlin, Milton Zener and Robert Burns.

Flowers were cared for by Mesdames H. Shafer, George Oliver, James Newman, D. Rucker, E. L. Dale, Emma Bohlscheid and Tom Dolman.

Burial was in Mountainview cemetery.
