William Hoese, 77, of Fargo, N.Dakota passed away last week Sunday in a hospital at that place after a prolonged illness since moving there from Mitchell. S. Dakota, three years ago. The deceased was born March 21, 1868, at Hinton, Iowa, where he matured to adult age. He entered the hardward business at Bridgewater, S. Dakota, in 1885. In 1889 he moved to Sioux Center, Iowa, where he started the Bank of Sioux Center and was its first president. Moving to Spencer, S. Dakota in 1890, he started the State Bank of Spencer. He had been prominent in banking circles since, being also associated with banks at Winfred and Sioux Falls. Mr. Hoese was also interested in the elevator business and was a large land owner in S. Dakota., besides other interests. He served in the South Dakota state
senate from 1898 to 1915, part of the time as president pro tem of the senate. During World War I he was active in war work and in the Red Cross. He was an active member of the Lutheran
Church.Surviving are his widow; two sons, Herbert,
of Fargo, and William , of Devils Tower, Wyo.; a
daughter, Mrs. Leste Bach, of Fargo, and six grandchildren.
