JOHN E. KOCH IS CALLED BY DEATH LAST SATURDAY
Rites Held Monday For Lifelong Resident Of This Community
A life-long and respected resident of western Plymouth county, John E. Koch, passed away Saturday, July 18, 1964, at the Akron Hospital, after a brief illness, aged 81 years, 4 months and 10 days.
Born March 5, 1883, he was the son of August and Elise Kress Koch, early day residents east of Akron. All through life he was a member of St. John Lutheran church, Preston township. On February 19, 1908, he was united in marriage with Louisa Milbrodt in the Milbrodt home. Their union was blessed with ten children. They farmed east of Akron all of their lives except for a period of seven years’ residence in Le Mars, and in 1963 they retired to return here.
Mrs. Koch preceded him in death July 2, 1963. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, William and Leonard; his step-mother, Mrs. Louise Koch, and step-brother, Dr. George Koch.
During the many years he engaged in farming, he gained a wide acquaintance in this area and his pleasant personality and helpful nature gained for hima host of friends, by whom he will long remembered.
Survivors include: Five daughters, Mrs. Delia Wilken, of Akron; Mrs. Lillian Schroeder, of Hartley, Iow; Mrs. Lorena Gabel, Mrs. Minnie Borchers, of Akron, and Mrs. Evelyn Radamacher, of Roch Island, Ill.; three sons, August of Vancouver, Wash.; Lt. Commander Henry, of Hayside, Va., and Rev. Lowell, of Iowa City, Iowa; two brothers, Emil and Herman, of Akron; a step-sister, Mrs. may Ross, of Akron; a step-brother, Fred Koch of Guthrie Center, Iowa; 33 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday in St. John Lutheran church, Preston township, Rev. Conrad Guetzluff officiating. Richard Hillrichs was soloist, Mrs. Wm. Van Buskirk was organist and there was congregational singing Casket bearers were Stanley Koch, Leonard Koch, Dennis Wilken; Leon Gabel, Jim Gabel and Robert Borchers. Interment was in the church cemetery.
