Donald Bernard Muecke, 76, of rural Hinton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Kingsley Specialty Care.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Timothy Geitz will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.

Donald Bernard Muecke was born on July 13, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Bernice (Johnson) Muecke. He attended high school in Hinton, Iowa and later studied at a trade school in Omaha, Nebraska.

On May 28, 1972, Don and Marylyn Wiener were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Kingsley, Iowa before moving to their present home in rural Hinton. Along with farming, Don worked at Curly’s Foods in Sioux City, Iowa.

Don was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He was an avid sports fan and closely followed the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Chiefs. He also belonged to a bowling team. He always looked forward to the summer fishing trips in Minnesota with friends and family. The most important thing to him was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Marylyn of rural Hinton, IA; children, Casey (Brandi) Muecke of rural Hinton, IA and Katie (Travis) Merritt of Whiting, IA; a close family friend, Bobbi Wessling of Le Mars, IA; grandchildren, Jonathon Vollmer, Marisa Vollmer, Caleb Merritt, Seth Merritt, Haley (Jay) DeVries, Autum Wessling, Iszbella(Jacob) Todd, Kyle Hubbell, Lucas Cray, Shae Muecke and Kylie Muecke; great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Louis Jay (L.J.) DeVries and Verity Vollmer; sisters, Connie (John) Rumbaugh of Omaha, NE and Diane Zinke of Le Sueur, MN; a sister-in-law, Sandy Muecke of rural Hinton, IA; Marylyn’s siblings, Darrell (Janet) Wiener of Le Mars, IA, LaVonne of Le Mars, IA, Leland of Le Mars, IA, Arlene of Le Mars, IA, Arnold (Kelly) of Nemaha, IA, Elaine (James) Droegmiller of Cushing, IA and Pat (James) Verrips of Sheldon, IA; a sister-in-law, Doris Wiener of Burnsville, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; a brother, Douglas Muecke; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Albert and Elda Wiener; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Larry Zinke, James, Carmen, Glenda, Ernest, Randall, Thomas and Michael Wiener.
