Anna Vreugdenhil

Anna Irene Vreugdenhil, 93, of Akron, and formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 1991, in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were Saturday at Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Rev. Shirley Textor, pastor of Adaville United Methodist church presided. Larry Johnson soloist, sang “Where He Leads Me, I Will Follow” and “Amazing Grace”, accompanied by Janet Merrick, pianist. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of Schroeder funeral home.

Pallbearers were Churck Vreugdenhil, Kevin Clark, Rick Bruneau, Brad Vreugdenhil, Dick Anderson, Kenny (Butch) Clark.

Mrs. Vreugdenhil was born Nov. 6, 1898, in Union county, S. D., near Elk Point, the daughter of Charles H. and Effie May (Frazee) Langdon. She was a rural school teacher three years before her marriage. She married William C. Vreugdenhil March 3, 1920, in Sioux Falls. They lived most of their lives on farms in Union county, S.D. and Plymouth county, Iowa. Mr. Vreugdenhil died in February 1943 in Akron. She moved in Sioux City in 1966. She had been a resident of the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Mrs. Vreugdenhil was a member of Adaville United Methodist church from 1945 to 1966. She had been a member of Grace United Methodist church in Sioux City since 1968 where she was active in church circles and XYZ organizations.

Survivors include two sons, Robert J. and his wife, Sally of Alcester, and Dennis C. of Akron; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Clark of Sioux City and Mrs. Eldon (Mariann) Earley of Wilsonville, Vreugdenhil of Akron; a brother H. James Langdon of Norton, Kan.; a twin sister, Mrs. Kathryn Hallberg of Burbank, Calif.; a foster daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Ruth) Dewitt of Sioux City, whom they raised; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Max and Gene; a daughter, Hope Vreugdenhil; and a grandson, Michael Clark.
