OBITUARY JAKE VREUGDENHIL

Jake Vreugdenhil passed away at the home of his son, Edw. Vreugdenhil, near Ireton, Iowa, August 20, 1937, of the age of 66 years and 14 days.

Mr. Vreudenhil was born in Holland, August 14, 1871. He came to America at the age of twelve with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Vreugdenhil who were early settlers of Charles Mix county, S. D. When a young man he moved to Hornick, Iowa, where he married Mary Grace Jones on December 28, 1898. To this union was born nine children, who survive him. In 1915 the family moved to Akron, Iowa, where Mrs. Vreugdenhil passed away February 26, 1919. On November 3, 1930, Mr. Vreugdehil was united in marriage with Mrs. Lela Schlender, of Osmond, Nebr. He made his home in Lebanon, Iowa, for fourteen years and then moved to Nebraska. Last fall they went to California, hoping the climate would benefit his health, but to no avail; so his wife brought him back to Iowa two weeks ago to be near his children.

He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, four sons and five daughters; Wm. C., of Akron, Iowa; Reuben, of Peterson, Iowa; Neal, of Blair, Nebr.; Edw., of Ireton, Iowa; Mrs. Peter Bol, of Inwood, Iowa; Mrs. Warren Hill, of Plainview, Nebr.; Mrs. Kenneth Moates, of Wendell, Idaho; Mrs. Ellis Odom, of Omaha, Nebr., and Miss Ruth Vreugdenhil, of Akron, Iowa; also two step-children, Edwin Schlender, of Corona, Calif., and Mrs. Paul Sanford, of Lincoln, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. John Brower, of Doon, Iowa, and thirteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Reubing in the Christian Reformed church at Lebanon, Iowa. He was laid to rest in Riverwside cemetery, Akron, Iowa. Peace to his memory.

All of Mr. Vreugdenhil’s children and their families attended his funeral services, except one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Montes, of Wendell, Idaho, who was unable to be present Other relatives and friends who attended from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sandford, Lincoln, Nebr.; Edw. Binning, Osmond, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Binning and son, Lyle, Osmond, Nebr., and daughter, Mrs. Lowell Rasmussen, Plainview, Nebr.; Mrs. Edw. Scheffler and son, Fred DeScheffler, Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Midlar Jett and daughter, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Hessel Rhooda, Rock Valley, Iowa; Mr. and mrs. Cornelius Vreugdenhil, Sioux Center, Iowa; Mrs. Mike Harmsen, Rock Rapids, Iowa; Jake Cannegieter, Rock Valley, John Oldenkamp, Rock Valley, Iowa.
