Jack "J.J." Killeas, longtime Le Mars businessman, dies

Jack "J.J." Killeas, 98, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 1995, at his residence.

John Joseph Killeas was born Feb. 20, 1897, in Manchester, the son of Johann and Mariaé Killeas. He married Grace Potter in 1917 in Sioux City, where he began his career in the creamery business with Hanford Produce. Around 1930, he moved with his wife and son to Le Mars. He was owner and operator of Plymouth Creamery Co.

Some of his other business involvements include: Seney Grain Co., Farmers Creamery Co., Northwest Distributing Co., which included Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Massey Harris dealership, and serving as president of Killeas Investments Inc.

Mr. Killeas was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. He had served as a member of the Gehlen School Board and was a member of the board of trustees for St. James Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Grace; two daughters, Patricia Koley and her husband, James of Omaha, Neb., and Linda Slusser and her husband, Robert, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Helen Killeas of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his one son, Vernon J. Killeas; two brothers in Switzerland and two sisters.

The family will hold a private service. There will be no visitaiton. Feuerstein Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund will be established by the family in his name with the American Diabetes Assn.
