Ubbe Jurrens, 93, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his home in Le Mars surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. Pastor Jon Meredith will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. The family will be present at 5:30 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Friday at the church.

Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can made in Ubbe’s name to the First Baptist Church in Le Mars.

Ubbe Jurrens, the son of Claus and Anke (Henricks) Jurrens, was born on October 18, 1929, on a farm west of Little Rock, Iowa. He spent his youth helping with chores on the farm. He attended Independent #4 and graduated from the 8th grade. At the age of 16, his father passed away and Ubbe spent the next 7 years helping his mother on the farm and caring for his siblings.

He was drafted into the United States Army in August of 1953 and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed overseas in England and Germany and was honorably discharged in June of 1955.

Ubbe was united in marriage to Darlene Kruger on January 18, 1957, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, Iowa. They eventually settled in Le Mars to raise their 4 children. Ubbe worked for 36 years for Lampert Lumber, beginning his career in Sibley, Merrill, and Clarion, before managing the Le Mars yard for 32 years. He enjoyed spending time with family, watching sports, and helping on his son’s farm.

Ubbe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Darlene of Le Mars; a son, Darwin (Lynn) Jurrens of Le Mars; a son, Alan (Penny Martinez) Jurrens of Littleton, CO; a daughter, Darla Jurrens of Le Mars; a son, Brad (Robin) Jurrens of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren: Michael (Shelby) Jurrens, Kristin Anthony, Danielle (Dustin) Williams, Nicholas Jurrens, Kayla (Andy) Crowder, and Connor Jurrens; great grandchildren: Jordan Berkenpas, Jaymison Jurrens, Claira Williams, Brynlee Jurrens, Gavin Anthony, Grace Anthony, and Gage Anthony; his brothers: Alvin Jurrens, Jake Jurrens, Clarence (Joyce) Jurrens, Harold (Faye) Jurrens, Frederick Jurrens, and Marvin Jurrens; his sister, Annetta (David) Hickman; a sister-in-law, Nancy Jurrens; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Dick and Helen Kruger; a brother, Glenn Jurrens; infant grandson, Matthew Jurrens; and in laws: Mavis Jurrens, Marlys Jurrens, Ruth Jurrens, Thelma and Robert Brown, Betty Kruger, Richard and Ethyl Kruger, and Gary Kruger.
