RICHARD J. WESTERGARD
Funeral Wednesday at St. James.

Richard “Dick” J. Westergard, 67, of LeMars died unexpectedly at his home Sunday, Dec. 3, 1995, of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Dec. 21, 1927, at Hawarden to William J. and Angie (Gerdes) Westergard. He moved to LeMars as a small child and attended LeMars Public Schools, graduating from LeMars Central High School in 1947. On July 18, 1949, he married Bonnie Luken at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars. The couple made their home in LeMars following their marriage. He was employed by various car dealers as an automobile salesman. From 1959 to 1965, he operated Westergard Ford Sales in Rock Rapids. From 1965 to 1993 he was employed as an automobile salesman for the Chevrolet dealership in LeMars.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of LeMars; two daughters, Julie Gourlie and her husband, Allan, of Edmonds, Wash., and Lisa Foreman and her husband, Blaine, of LeMars; two sons, Mike Westergard and his wife, Kim, of LeMars and Pat Westergard and his wife, Jody, of Brier, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and a sister Pearl Scholler and her husband, Darrell, of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Danny Westergard.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars, with the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars. There will be scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
