Tuesday, April 4, 1905Funeral of Mrs. James Mohan.
The funeral of Mrs. James Mohan which was held from St. James’ church on Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. Father O’Farrell, was very largely attended, the old friends and neighbors paying high tribute to her memory.
Her maiden name was Mary Geary and she was born in Lexington, Ky., February 19, 1841. She was united in marriage with James Mohan at Garryowen, Iowa, in 1870. Shortly after their marriage they came to South Dakota to reside and about four years later they came to Stanton township to make their home. They have resided in LeMars twenty-two years.
She was a devoted wife and mother and earnest Christian. The children live in LeMars with the exception of Mrs. Sam McGinty, who lives near Sioux City. And Miss Agnes who lives at Fort Dodge and Sister Rita who teaches in the parochial schools of St. Patrick’s church at Akron.
She was a sister of Wm. Geary of Stanton township and Mrs. Robert Mohan of Sioux City.
The pallbearers were: Pat Hickey, M. Kennedy, Frank Levins, Mike Toohey, Wm. Sullivan and E. McCarthy.

Wednesday, April 5, 1905Mrs. James Mohan, who had been critically ill since last Tuesday, died at her home on Center street about twelve o’clock on Thursday night. Mrs. Mohan had been sick for several months and early in the winter it was thought that she would pass away but she recovered and was in fairly good health until about three weeks ago when she became sick again and steadily grew worse. On Tuesday her condition was so serious that her children were summoned from Fort Dodge and Sioux City and they came home at once and were with her when she died.
The deceased. whose maiden name was Mary Geary, was born at Lexington, Kentucky, on February 19, 1841. She was united in marriage with James Mohan at Garryowen, Iowa, in 1870. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Mohan came to LeMars and this has been their home since. Besides the bereaved husband, eight daughters and three sons mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother.
Mrs. Mohan was essentially a home woman. Her life was centered around her husband and her children and their welfare and interests were her chief care. She was a devoted wife and mother and an earnest Christian.
The children live in LeMars with the exception of Mrs. Sam McGinty, who resides near Sioux City, Miss Agnes who lives at Fort Dodge, and Sister Rita, who teaches in the parochial schools of St. Patricks church at Akron.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at St. James church, Rev. Father O’Farrell officiating, and was largely attended by old friends and neighbors.
