DEATH OF BEN KAUFMANN

Former Proprietor of Dubuque House is Dead

Word was recelved in LeMars on Sunday of the death of Ben Kaufmann, which occurred at his home on the Pleper farm near Cleghorn that morning. His death was due to tuberculosis of the lungs. He had been in poor health for some time and was gradually wasting away.

Mr. Kaufmann was proprietor of the Dubuque House hotel in this city for several years and recently traded the property to Mr. Piper, the present proprietor.

Mr. Kaufmann was a native of the grand duchy of Luxemburg, Europe, and came to this country when a young man. Before becoming landlord of the Dubuque House he lived near Granville and on the Richardson farm near Morf's Lake on the road to Merrill. He was forty-seven years and five months old, and leaves a wife and five children to mourn his death. He also leaves a number of relatives residing in this county.

Nic Wiltgen went to Cleghorn on Sunday to take care of the body, and the remains will be brought here from Cleghorn on Wednesday morning on the ten o'clock train, and the funeral will be held at St. Joseph's church.

Interment will be made in the St. Joseph's cemetery.
