Mrs. Lila McGrew, 85, who had lived in Le Mars the last 34 years, died Friday (Sept. 2, 1977) at Brentwood Good Samaritan center after a illness of several months.

Lila Murphy was born July 19, 1892, in Chicago to William C. and Elizabeth Downing Murphy. She lived in Chicago until 1943 when she moved to Le Mars. She had made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nemmers until four years ago when she moved to Brentwood.

Mrs. McGrew had been employed at the Clara Owen's
women's ready-to-wear store in Le Mars for 10 years as a saleslady.

Her marriage to John H. McGrew took place Sept. 6, 1916, in Chicago. He preceded her in death in December, 1935. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, William and Cornelius, and a sister, Sister Mary St. Catherine, B.V.M., and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Le Mars. Rev. Francis Staber will officiate and burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of the Luedtke funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Friday. The parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, John D. McGrew, West Covina, Calif.; a daughter Mrs. Elmer (Celeste) Nemmers, Le Mars; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Catherine) Wartgaw, Salt Lake City, Utah.
