Obituary.
Mrs. Bert (Jennie) Groves, 93, longtime LeMars resident, died Tuesday (Feb. 12, 1974) at Plymouth Manor, LeMars. She had resided at the Manor for the last four months.

Jennie Smid was born Sept. 16, 1880, in the Netherlands, and came to this vicinity with her parents at the age of three. Her parents were Rudolph and Regina (Halsur) Smid. She had since lived here.

Her marriage to Bert Groves took place in June 1902 in LeMars. He preceded her in death, Oct. 20, 1953.

Mrs. Groves was a member of the Christian Mothers, Third Order of St. Francis and St. Joseph Catholic church here. The two groups will recite the rosary at the funeral home at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph church in LeMars. Rev. Dale Reiff will officiate and burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of the Luedtke funeral home. The parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Sullivan, LeMars; two sons, Fred A. Groves, Mission Hills, Calif., and Roman L. Groves of Hayward, Calif.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a brother, John Smid, of Breda.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Leslie and Gerald, a daughter Emily, and 13 brothers and sisters.
