Last Rites Held For Mrs. Etzel, Early Resident
Wife of Former Well Known Landowner Dies in Kansas City.

Last rites were held Monday morning at St. Joseph church in this city. Mgr. J. D. Fisch, officiating for Mrs. Josephine Etzel, 89, well known former resident of Plymouth county, who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lucille Clifford, in Kansas City. Death was due to infirmities of age.

The Etzel family formerly conducted a large farm four miles west of LeMars, and later came to live in this city.

Frank Etzel, husband of the deceased woman, was killed several years ago when struck by a train near LeMars.

Josephine Etzel Is Laid To Rest.
Former Resident Passes Away at Daughter’s Home in Kansas City.

Funeral services were held on Monday morning from St. Joseph’s Catholic church for Mrs. Josephine Etzel, 89, former resident of Plymouth county, who passed away Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Clifford, Kansas City. Msgr. J. D. Fisch officiated at the services.

Josephine Etzel was born January 3, 1848, at Westphalia, Germany, and came to the United States at the age of eighteen. She was married to Frank Etzel at Detroit and came almost immediately to settle in Iowa on a farm near Struble. A short time later they moved to a farm southwest of LeMars and lived there until 1906, when they retired.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1906, John in 1914, and Louis in 1927. Survivors include Sister Geralda Clarendon, Hills, Illinois; Mrs. Catherine Orban, Long Beach, California; Mrs. J. Hassett, Woonsocket, S.D.; Ann Etzel, Moorland, Iowa; Mrs. F. Burgess, Springfield, MO.; Mrs. G. Rencher, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. L. Clifford, Kansas City, Missouri, with whom she made her home since 1920.

Mrs. Etzel was a faithful member of the Catholic church and possessed d a super-unselfish nature, true and loyal, and all the good traits of a loving mother is capable of, she lavished on her family.
