Michael Engels Pioneer Farmer
Taken By Death.
Lived On Same Farm In Elgin Township Over Forty Years.

Death claimed Michael Engels, 81, pioneer resident of Plymouth county, Thursday night, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Reeves, in Elgin township, where he had made his home of late. He had been ill the past two months suffering with an internal cancer.

Mr. Engels was born in Koerich, Luxemburg, Europe, May 27, 1854, where he grew to young manhood. He came to America fifty-three years ago, and settled shortly after in Plymouth county, where he engaged in farming. He had lived on the farm he owned for forty years. Mr. Engels never married.

He is survived by a brother, living at Red Cloud, Neb., and a sister, at Seattle, Wash.

Mr. Engels was widely known in the county. He was a pleasant, jovial disposition and enjoyed a large acquaintance. he was hardworking and a successful farmer and a good citizen.

The funeral services were held Monday at St. Joseph church in this city, Mgr. J. D. Fisch officiating at the mass, and interment was made in St. Joseph cemetery.

Mrs. D. Berg and daughter, of Granville;
George and Peter Cramer and the latter’s daughter, and Mr. Bock, of Wilmont, Minn.;
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Schmidt and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Kaiser, of Sioux City.
