Mrs. Katherine Engeldinger Discovered By Sister-in-Law, Mrs. Hansen.Mrs. Katherine Engeldinger was found dead in her home by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Katherine Hansen, Thursday night at about 7:30 o’clock. She was troubled considerably with Brights disease. It is believed her death was caused by heart failure. Mrs. Engeldinger was one of the early settlers of Plymouth county.
Deceased was born in Kobstall, Luxembourg, on February 4, 1852. She came with her parents to America in 1869 and settled in Jackson county, Ia. Later the family moved to Sioux county, Ia., where they engaged in farming.
Mrs. Engeldinger, nee Hansen, was united in marriage to Nick Engeldinger at the St. Joseph’s church in LeMars in 1874. Mr. and Mrs. Engeldinger built the Engeldinger hotel here, 40 years ago, which occupied the site where the Commercial block is now. Her husband died in 1894 (sic1892), leaving her alone in the world. She conducted the hotel business long after her husband’s death.
Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hansen, who died several years ago at a ripe old age.
The funeral was held Saturday morning at St. Joseph’s church, of which she was a good member. Burial was made in the St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery.
She is survived by two brothers, Peter Hansen, a well known farmer of Alton, and George Hansen, whose whereabouts are not known; one sister, Sister Euphraisa in the Christian Charity convent in St. Louis, Mo.
