Mrs. Henry J. Groetken
Mrs. Henry J. Groetken, 87, 1624 West 14th St., Sioux City, a Sioux City resident since 1903, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 1973) at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George (Leota) Peterson, 1509 Goldie Ave., Sioux City, after a long illness.
Mrs. Groetken, the former Amelia A. Bird, was born April 11, 1885, at Marcus, the daughter of the late John and Ann (McNally) Bird.
She was married to Henry J. Groetken at Sioux City Sept. 18, 1907. He died July 19, 1956.
Mrs. Groetken was a lifetime member of the Catholic daughters of America in Le Mars and also belonged to the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary and the Purple Heart auxiliary.
She had been a licensed practical nurse for many years doing mostly private duty in Sioux City hospitals until retiring about eight years ago.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Sioux City, with Rev. Ronald G.
Groschen officiating.Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Le Mars, under direction of the Manning-O'Toole funeral home at Sioux City.
Parish rosary will be recited at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Mrs. Groetken was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Mrs. Rosella Benton who died Feb. 1, 1973.
Survivors are three sons, Thomas J. of Wichita, Kan.. Cyril W. of Long Beach, Calif., and Cecil F. of Sioux City; four daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Henrietta) Boden and Mrs. Arlene Fryan, both of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Florence Mastne of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. George (Leota) Peterson of Sioux City; 37 grand-; children and 44 great-grandchildren.
