SUFFERED FROM ILLNESS FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
WAS PIONEER RESIDENT IN IOWA.L. J. Lieb, a well known resident of America township died at his home east of town on Saturday following a long illness of Bright’s disease. He had been ill for the past three years and a half and for the past five months was confined to his bed.
Louis J. Lieb was born in Camboia county, Pennsylvania, on April 3, 1858. From there he moved to Virginia, where he resided two years, moving back to Pennsylvania. When he was seventeen with his parents he moved to New Vienna, Iowa, where he resided a few years. He then moved to Pocahontas county, Iowa, where he farmed with his mother for several years.
On March 2, 1886, he married Sophie Speilman and they engaged in farming on their own account.
To their union nine children were born, eight of whom are living. Mrs. John Smid, of Breda, Adel and Louis of Anthon, Florence of Breda, Vincent, Freddie, Dorothy, and Clarence living at home. He also leaves two brothers, W. C. Lieb of Pocahontas, Otto J. Lieb, of Alton and a sister, Mrs. Louis Fuchs, of Fonda.
In 1902 the family moved to their farm near LeMars.
Mr. Lieb was a member of the Catholic church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devout Christian and a man of genial and loving disposition. He bore his long years of suffering uncomplainingly and with resignation and throughout his illness, always greeted his friends with a smile.
The funeral was held yesterday at St. Joseph’s church and was attended. The friends and relatives from out of town who attended the funeral are: Mrs. Louis Fuchs and daughter of Fonda; W. C. Lieb, Mrs. Louisa Rubel, Marathon; Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Wykcoff, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Thompson, Mrs. G. H. Gottfried, Jake Speilman, Mrs. Ed O’Donnell, Mrs. A. J. Sauter, of Fonda; Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Adams, of Ft. Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holder, Laurens; J. J. Wilhelmi, of Remsen; Mike Kennedy, of Westfield; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lieb, of Paullina.
