OBITUARY.
Master Sergeant LaVonne Delperdang, USA, Retired, 73, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Sacramento, California, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 4, 2022, at her home in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2022, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. James Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Burial with full military honors provided by the Iowa Army National Guard, American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars, and the American Legion Riders Post 241 of Le Mars will be in the Veteran’s Section at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

LaVonne Agnes Delperdang, the daughter of Francis and Rita (Weber) Delperdang, was born on June 13, 1949, in Le Mars, Iowa. She attended grade school at Holy Name Catholic School in Marcus and high school in Remsen. She graduated from Remsen-Union High School in 1967. She received her degree from the University of South Dakota in 1971.

She enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1973. Following her honorable discharged from the Army in May of 1979, she began serving fulltime in the United States Army Reserves in secret communications, traveling worldwide during this time. She retired at the age of 60 after 28 years of service, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. During her time in the service, she was awarded several medals, including the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Following her retirement, she worked in the commissary office in Sacramento, assisting with civil service until 2019. In May of 2020, she moved to Le Mars to be closer to her siblings.

She enjoyed crocheting and bead work. In her early years, she played the guitar. She liked watching sports, especially the Sacramento Kings. Her true passion in life was serving her country. She was a proud American and was devoted to the American flag and everything it stood for!

Survivors include her siblings: Mary Wiltgen of Le Mars, IA, Donna (Gary) Mousel of Le Mars, IA, Mike Delperdang of Le Mars, IA, Paul (Dottie) Delperdang of Seney, IA, Dan Delperdang of Le Mars, IA, and Glen (Christina) Delperdang of Le Mars, IA; her aunt, Sr. Janet Delperdang, OP of Milwaukee, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Rita Delperdang; two sisters in law, Mary Jo Delperdang and Wanda Delperdang; a nephew, Christopher Delperdang; a niece, Tonya Bruscher; and several aunts and uncles.
