Mrs. Mullaney Dies Suddenly

Her Death Is a Great Shock to Her Relatives and Friends

Mrs. Christine Mullaney died very suddenly at her home at 618 Court street on Friday morning, death being due to heart trouble. Her sudden death is a great shock to her relatives and friends. She had not been feeling in the best of health of late and recently consulted a physician, who informed her that she was suffering from leakage of the heart, and advised her to be careful and take a rest. On the day before her death she was not feeling well but her condition was not regarded as serious. On Friday morning she suddenly expired.

Christine Willmes [sic] was born at St. Donatus, Jackson county, Iowa, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nic Willmes [sic], on September 30, 1870, and spent her early girlhood there. When she was a girl of fourteen the family moved to LeMars and has lived here since. On leaving school she assisted her parents in the conduct of the City hotel, which was located on the corner of Seventh and Main streets. When nineteen years of age she was united in marriage with William Mullaney, who died some years ago.

She is survived by her son, James Mullaney, of Spencer, Iowa, and by her aged father, Nic Willmes [sic], three brothers, and three sisters, who are Mrs. John Thoma, of Wall, S. D., Adam Willmes [sic], of this city, Peter Willmes [sic], of Wood, S. D., Mrs. G. B. Spears, of Sioux City, Mrs. E. G. Oldham of Le Mars, and Nicholas Willmes [sic], of Colton, S. D., and a little granddaughter. Mrs. Will Lynch of this city is a niece of the deceased.

Since the death of her mother several years ago Mrs. Mullaney conducted the Willmes [sic] boarding house on Court street and kept house for her father, whose mainstay and home maker she proved, and was a mother to the younger sisters and brothers. She was an active, an energetic woman, never sparing herself to help others, and of a generous and loyal disposition. She was a dutiful daughter, fond mother and a loving sister, and had gained a large circle of friends who regret her early death.

The funeral was held yesterday morning at the St. Joseph's church in this city, Rev. Father W. A. Pape officiating. Those from out of town who came to attend the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. John Thoma, Wall, S. D.; Mr. Mrs. James Mullaney and daughter, Spencer, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schmitz, Hawarden; Mr. and Mrs. Nic Willmes [sic], Colton, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Nic Ney, Iona, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. John Roderbour, Struble; Miss Rachel Kline and Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Spears, of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Maugan, Plover, Iowa.
