Death of Pioneers
Nic Willmes [sic] Was A Resident Here For Forty Years
Nicholas Willmes [sic] a resident of Le Mars for many years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. B. Spears, 4054 Van Buren avenue, Leeds, on Saturday afternoon of cancer. Mr. Willmes [sic] was one of the pioneer residents of Le Mars and lived here until the past four or five years. He was a stonemason by trade and followed his calling here for a number of years and subsequently engaged in the hotel business. Since the death of his wife several years ago he made his home with his children.
Mr. Willmes [sic] was a native of Luxemberg [sic], Europe, where he was born seventy-nine years ago. He came to the United States when a boy of ten years of age. He lived at St. Donatus, Jockson [sic] county, and came frof [sic] there to Plymouth county. He is survived by three sons and three daughters, who are Adam Willmes [sic], of Wall, S. D., Peter Willmes [sic], of Fairbury, Neb., Nic Willmes [sic], of Jefferson, S. D., Mrs. John Thoma, Wall, S. D., Mrs. R. B. Spears, Leeds and Mrs. E. G. Oldham of Winner, S. D. Mrs. Will Lynch, this city, is a granddaughter of the deceased. All the children were here to attend the funeral, which was held yesterday morning at St. Joseph's church; this city. Three daughters, Mrs. Fred Coddington, Mrs. Christine Mullaney and Mrs. Mary Lair [sic] preceded their father in death.
