Doris Mortensen, 89, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, Iowa.

Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Reverend Christian Meier will officiate. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Visitation will resume following the services during a time of lunch and fellowship at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

Doris Margaret Crawford, the daughter of Lyle and Leona (Thiesen) Crawford, was born February 25, 1933, on a farm in Woodbury County, Iowa. She attended school in Moville, Iowa, and graduated from Moville Public School in 1951. Following high school, she worked as a secretary at Lutheran Welfare Company in Sioux City for two years.

She was united in marriage to Eldon Mortensen on November 21, 1954, at the EUB Methodist Church in Moville. To this union, three children were born, Ronald, Marland, and Ardis. The couple lived and farmed in Plymouth County, Iowa. In 1975, she went to work for Le Mars Mutual. She worked there for 23 years until retiring. In 1996, they moved to Le Mars. Eldon passed away on October 10, 2011. They were married for 56 years.

Doris was a member of the EUB Methodist Church in Moville for 21 years. After moving to Le Mars, she became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Doris had a strong faith and would help whenever needed at her church. She also enjoyed playing hymns on her organ. Doris enjoyed helping Eldon on the farm and raising her children on the farm. Crocheting, embroidery, and baking were also some of her enjoyments as well.

Survivors include her two children: Marland (Michelle) Mortensen of Basehor, KS and Ardis (Randy) Boetger of Le Mars, IA; a daughter in law, Lorrie Mortensen of Minnesota; 8 grandchildren: Matthew (Sophia) Mortensen, Ryan Mortensen, Aaron (Jess) Mortensen, Mindy (Ryan) Roline, Joshua (Mary) Mortensen, Tyler (Rena) Mortensen, Katie (Timmy) Cohrs, and Michaela (Travis) Heath; 11 great grandchildren; her siblings: Vera Sterrett of Marcus, IA, Gerald Crawford of Arizona, and Shirley Kurasz of Lawton, IA; her in laws: Shirley Crawford of Moville, IA, Leona Reyelts of Minneapolis, MN, and Wendell (Nancy) Mortensen of Yankton, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Leona Crawford; her husband, Eldon Mortensen; her son, Ronald Mortensen; her grandson, Christopher Mortensen; her siblings: Audrey (Wilbur) Rippke, Dale Crawford, Phyllis (Kenny) Anderson, Kathryn Smith, Kendall Crawford, and Bethene Crawford; and her in laws: Walter Sterrett, Mary Crawford, and Larry Reyelts.
