Robert Shive Expires at Pendelton, Ore.

Worked for Central Telephone Co. 50 Years

Set Funeral Serviced Here Thursday Afternoon

Robert J. Shive, 84, longtime employee of the Central Telephone Co. here, died Sunday at Pendelton, Ore., where he had been residing with a son, Niel Shive, since July of last year.

Mr. Shive had been employed by the local telephone company for nearly 50 years. He had been wire chief for many years until retiring in 1953. Since that time he had made his home with the son in Oregon and a daughter, Mrs. Gay Runcie, in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mauer’s funeral home here. Rev. L. L. Belk will officiate. Burial will be in the city cemetery.

Robert Shive was born Nov. 9, 1874, at Batavia, Iowa. He was married to Karen Marie Sorenson in 1906 at Le Mars. His wife preceded him in death.

Mr. Shive had served many years as a member of the Le Mars volunteer fire department.

Survivors, besides the son and daughter, are six grandchildren; two brothers, Fred of Eldon, Iowa, and Jonas of Silvis, Ill., and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Airy of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Elzie Rupe of Sioux City.
