ANOTHER VICTIM
Alcohol Scores Another Victory—A Fatal Fall.

Patrick Griffin, who lives just across the line in Sioux county, came to an untimely end last Saturday. He visited Maurice on Friday, and on his way home fell through the railroad bridge across the west branch of the Floyd, and lay on the ground all night, bruised and helpless.

On Saturday morning he rallied sufficiently to be able to walk home. He was immediately put to bed, but died during the day. He was 60 years of age, and came here at an early time, accumulated considerable property and leaves his family in comfortable circumstances.

He indulged constantly in the use of strong drink, and was no doubt under the influence of liquor when the fatal plunge occurred which resulted in his death. The funeral took place in this city, where he was well known, on Sunday afternoon, the remains being laid away at final rest in the Catholic cemetery.

Sheldon News: A peculiar sad accident occurred in Sioux county near the little station of Maurice, just west of Orange City, Friday night. One (Patrick) Griffin of Sherman township has two sons in the saloon business, one at Ireton and one at Maurice, two small towns on the Northwestern. The night of the accident Griffin had become intoxicated in his son’s saloon in Maurice and started to walk home in that condition late at night, his route taking him down the railroad track. He had not reached home the next morning and a search was instituted, resulting in finding his dead body under the railroad bridge a short distance from town.
